There’s just something about summer nights in Missouri that hit differently—especially when they involve rodeo thrills, hot air balloon magic, and a whole lot of good food. On Friday, August 1st, my family and I headed out to Brookdale Farms for their annual Glowdeo, and let me tell you—it did not disappoint.

The Brookdale Farms Glowdeo is a two-night event that blends the heart-pounding action of a rodeo with the serene beauty of a hot air balloon glow. We had a solid crew with us this year: my wife, our two kids, my sister and her boyfriend visiting from Philly, my great-nephew, my brother-in-law and his wife and kids, plus my cousin, his fiancée, and their little teenager. It was a full-blown family outing, and Brookdale Farms had something for everyone.

The rodeo was wild (in the best way)—bulls bucking, barrels flying, and more than a few moments that had the crowd on the edge of their seats. A couple of close calls definitely got hearts racing, but all the riders seemed to make it out okay. The energy in the arena was electric, with the crowd cheering every twist and turn.

Of course, no event is complete without food, and Brookdale Farms delivered. Food trucks and snack stands lined the grounds, offering everything from classic fair food to ice-cold beer. But listen—I can’t stop thinking about those nachos. Seriously, I might go back next year just for those.

After the rodeo wrapped up, the vibe shifted to something a little more laid-back but no less magical. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the field began to glow with the soft, flickering light of hot air balloons. Meanwhile, a live band cranked out some rockin’ tunes, giving the whole place a festival feel. The kids danced, we chilled in the grass, and I even grabbed a new cowboy hat for my son—he wore it like a champ all night.

If you’ve never been to the Brookdale Farms Glowdeo, you’re missing one of the most unique and memorable summer events in the area. Between the farm animals, inflatable playgrounds, live music, and glow-in-the-dark balloon beauty, there’s something for everyone. We’ll definitely be back next year—with even more family in tow.

Until then, I’ll be dreaming of nachos and cowboy hats under glowing balloons.
