Before the whole world shut down due to COVID-19, my daughter was gearing up for her first 5K with the Girls on the Run program here in St. Louis. She was excited about practice and of course hanging out with her friends after school.

Well, of course corona shut all of that down and we were expecting to hear from Girls on the Run about a refund or a rescheduling of the race. To our surprise they instead kept sending the activities and even switched up the race to be a virtual 5K. Essentially saying you can run this race anywhere and to just submit your results when finished.

That is exactly what we did!!! See our results below!!!

So, not only did Abby run in the race, so did I!!! I kept a good pace with my daughter and encouraged her to do her best. We even popped on Facebook Live a few times to show the world the best of our running abilities. Abby and I even helped raise funds to help more kids sign up for future Girls on the Run registrations!!!

It was fun and exciting to watch my daughter finish strong and complete the race, even if it was held virtually. She committed and followed through and I cannot ask for more.

Congratulations Abby on a job well done! Our next race will be even better!!!

I'm a 40-year-old father blessed with two wonderful children: a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son. My life revolves around my beautiful wife, who is the cornerstone of our family. Without her unwavering support, none of what I do would be possible. By day, I serve as a network administrator for a local school district, ensuring smooth operations in the realm of technology. During the evenings, you'll often find me engrossed in various creative pursuits, from illustrating books to crafting websites or composing music. But above all, my priority is spending quality time with my kids. Parenthood has been a profound journey of growth and discovery for me, and now, armed with a keyboard instead of a pen, I'm eager to share my experiences and insights with others.
