Sportsmanship in Cincinnati

2015_asg_logo_cin_banner_500x283Last night I sat down with my daughter to watch the All Star Game being played in the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio. At four years old she is still trying to learn about baseball. We all know there are many colors when it comes to all of the teams in the Major League, but to her it’s as simple as the red team and blue team. Sometimes she might start acting goofy and say “Go blue!” Which I assume she is talking about the St. Louis Blues…

As mentioned in other posts our family is all about the Cardinals, so when it came time to cheer on our birds all we could hear from the T.V. was people booing. This was a little shocking as I had to explain to my daughter why they were booing. I explained the rivalry between the Cardinals and the Reds to her, and how sometimes it’s okay to boo at opposing teams… However, this was the All Star Game, where the best of the best come to play for the chance to get home field advantage for the World Series. You can see players from different teams chumming it up and having a good time celebrating this mid-summer classic. So why did the fans have to throw sportsmanship out the window and boo the Cardinals? Because of some rivalry? I am totally okay with being booed during a regular season game, or during the playoffs, but during the All Star Game seemed a little cheap to me. Maybe I expected a good game with good sportsmanship. Whatever it is I thought would have happened, didn’t. Either way keep it classy Cincinnati. St. Louis still loves you.

Check out the video below courtesy of Fox Sports to see Molina being booed.

Even former Cardinal, Albert Pujols joined in on the booing. His participation was more in good fun rather than being a meanie.

What do you think about the booing during the All Star Game? Comment below!

Richie

My name is Richie and I am a 40 year old father of two, a daughter and son. I am married to a beautiful woman named Destiny. She is the foundation of our family, and without her, none of this would be possible. During the day I work as a network security administrator for a local school district. At night I can be found illustrating books, working on websites, or creating music, but more than likely though I am spending time with my kids.
