FATHER’S DAY WEEKEND FUN AT ST. LOUIS UNION STATION

A NASA exhibition, the Cars & Cones car show, a free petting zoo, Summer of the Shark at the Aquarium, and a free ride on the St. Louis Wheel highlight Father’s Day weekend activities at St. Louis Union Station.

The NASA Europa Exhibit will make a stop in St Louis from June 13 -17 for an extended Father’s Day weekend visit. Europa is a moon of Jupiter on which NASA has identified evidence of an ocean covered by an ice crust. The Europa Clipper will be launched in October 2024 to travel for nearly six years to Europa to explore whether that moon could have conditions suitable for life. The St. Louis Aquarium is hosting this free-access NASA exhibit from Thursday June 13 through Monday June 17. Visitors can learn more about the mission to explore whether Europa could sustain life forms and can visit with scientists from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Take dad for a free ride on the 200-foot-tall St. Louis Wheel at Union Station. The Wheel offers amazing views of the St. Louis skyline and is open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Carousel rides, mini-golf and carnival games also will be open. The free Animals R Us petting zoo is visiting the Union Station plaza on both Saturday and Sunday for Father’s Day weekend. Tickets at the Wheel or online at www.thestlouiswheel.com.

On Saturday, June 15 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the family-friendly Cars and Cones car show will fill the south parking lot at Union Station with an amazing collection of classic and custom cars. After the car show, visitors get 20 percent off on ice cream at the Soda Fountain, Union Station’s retro-style diner. Buy-one, get-one-free tickets also will be available at both the St. Louis Wheel and the Selfie Express photo illusion attraction that day.

It’s a fact. Dads love sharks. Summer of the Shark continues at the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station. Bring dad for a shark feeding, the Shark Canyon dive show or a walk across the rope bridge high over the big sharks’ habitat. Shark story time thrills the little ones and everyone can touch the sharks that live in the touch pool. This summer-long focus on the Aquarium’s sharks includes a specal exhibition from the American Museum of Natural History titled “Sharks” that offers amazing facts about the ocean’s most fascinating creatures.

GIFTS FOR DAD: VOLTRON BEER & SOCCER BOOKS

Attention Gen X Dads! Voltron Volume Five will be released on draft and in four-packs of 16oz cans at the 4 Hands Brewery & Tasting Room and 4 Hands at The District on Friday, June 7. The fifth release in a six-part series of collaborations with breweries from around the country to bring Voltron to life, Voltron Volume Five is a juicy, hazy IPA brewed with Tripping Animals Brewing out of Doral, Florida. A malt base composed of pale malt, white wheat and flaked oats serves as a springboard for tropical, citrus and dark stone fruit flavors contributed by a blend of Cashmere, Citra and Idaho Gem hops. This has been a popular collectors item and a perfect gift for a beer-loving Dad.

St. Louis’ ongoing obsession with soccer and embrace of the CITY SC football team, means two books by local soccer expert Dave Lange belong in any sporty dad’s Father’s Day gift bag. Lange’s photo-filled Year One: St. Louis CITY SC follows the unparalleled first season of the MLS expansion team and is available at ReedyPress.com or wherever books are sold. His previous book, Soccer Made in St. Louis: A History of the Game in America’s First Soccer Capital brings the region’s long love affair with the beautiful game to life in pictures and lore. The coffee table-style book is available at select retailers and on Amazon.com.

I'm a 40-year-old father blessed with two wonderful children: a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son. My life revolves around my beautiful wife, who is the cornerstone of our family. Without her unwavering support, none of what I do would be possible. By day, I serve as a network administrator for a local school district, ensuring smooth operations in the realm of technology. During the evenings, you'll often find me engrossed in various creative pursuits, from illustrating books to crafting websites or composing music. But above all, my priority is spending quality time with my kids. Parenthood has been a profound journey of growth and discovery for me, and now, armed with a keyboard instead of a pen, I'm eager to share my experiences and insights with others.
