When we are renovating and making changes to our family home, one thing that is always fairly high on the list is adding light and brightness to the house.

If you don’t have a south facing home and it sometimes feels a little dark and shady, we want to share some different methods for bringing bright light into your home this week.

All of these steps can be easily taken and together they will help you to create a much brighter and more beautiful home for your family.

1. Paint the walls white

The first trick is perhaps the easiest of the whole list and this involves painting all of your plain walls and ceilings white. The home can easily become overwhelmed with colour – and if you have opted for a cream or magnolia neutral colour for your walls this can actually be making your home look darker and more cramped. Refresh your walls this week with a huge tub of white paint and refresh every wall in the house. This will only take a few days to do and the light will reflect off the white walls and cast across your whole home.

2. Hang more mirrors

Mirrors are a magical thing to have in your home, particularly if it is a smaller home. Mirrors can immediately make your house look and feel bigger, and they will also reflect light from the outside into your house. Placing a mirror on a wall close to your window will bounce light through the room and it can make even the dullest space of the house look bright and fresh.

3. Declutter your shelves

One way to make your home look lighter and brighter this week is to get rid of shadows in the form of clutter. Mess in and around the house can do a lot of harm and it won’t take long for a couple of boxes or ornaments to completely suck the light out of a given room and make it look oppressive. Clear some of the clutter from your shelves and from the room in general and you will soon notice that the space looks lighter and brighter as a result.

4. Install new windows

One of the best ways to improve the light in your home is to get in touch with a window replacement company and either replace old and dull windows or install completely new windows around the house. Making your windows bigger and having more of them around the house can make a massive difference to the look and feel of the space and it won’t take long for the light to penetrate through and create a bright home.

5. Get french doors fitted

If you have regular doors at the back of your kitchen leading into the garden, it is now time for a change and an upgrade to french doors. French doors are completely glass meaning that you can replace a plastic or wooden door with one that will let tons of light into the room. This is a great way to bring more light into your home and open it up to the garden.
