Inspired by Dr. Maya Angelou’s powerful poem Life Doesn’t Frighten Me, this original play by multi-disciplinary hip-hop artist Paige Hernandez brings to life the everyday fears we all face—and the courage within us to rise above them. Told through spoken word, hip-hop, and dance, the story celebrates every child’s unique strength and reminds us all that we are indeed fearless royalty!

For more than 50 years, Metro Theater Company has brought professional theater directly into the spaces where young people learn, grow, and gather. Meeting young audiences where they are isn’t just something we do — it’s what sets us apart. It’s what allows us to share meaningful, high-quality performances with schools, libraries, and community spaces across the St. Louis metro.

And at the heart of this touring work is something small, humble, and incredibly important:
Our touring van, affectionately known as Vinnie Van Go 🚐💛.
Vinnie carries everything we need to tell stories that resonate with young people — sets, props, costumes, equipment, and the imagination that brings each production to life. He is the little engine behind every mile of our impact.

Because of this van, we’ve been able to:
• Tour dozens of productions
• Bring our work into hundreds of community spaces
• Reach thousands of young people each year

As we look toward Giving Tuesday, we’re excited to share more about what it takes to get a production ready for the road — and the immense care and craftsmanship behind each show we pack up and bring to the next space.

Your support helps ensure that young people across our region continue to experience stories that honor their voices, ignite their imagination, and enrich their sense of community.
We hope you’ll join us over the next two weeks as we highlight the impact of our touring work — and share how you can keep Vinnie Van Go moving for years to come.
Thank you for being part of the journey.

Your belief in this work helps us reach young people who might otherwise never experience professional theater.

I'm a 40-year-old father blessed with two wonderful children: a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son. My life revolves around my beautiful wife, who is the cornerstone of our family. Without her unwavering support, none of what I do would be possible. By day, I serve as a network administrator for a local school district, ensuring smooth operations in the realm of technology. During the evenings, you'll often find me engrossed in various creative pursuits, from illustrating books to crafting websites or composing music. But above all, my priority is spending quality time with my kids. Parenthood has been a profound journey of growth and discovery for me, and now, armed with a keyboard instead of a pen, I'm eager to share my experiences and insights with others.
