Making LemonadeMy daughter and niece have been talking about it all summer. They have had their sights set on setting up a lemonade stand so they can make a little extra money before the summer is out. It is finally their big day and it could not have gone better. My wife and my sister setup a nice table and umbrella for the girls as their “stand” and had the girls help with making the fresh squeezed lemonade. It was pretty tasty as they say.

So they setup shop with some nice cold lemonade, some red solo cups, and patience. It didn’t take long to get their first customer and not long after that they got their next. The Highland Police Department and the Highland Fire Department even made a visit to get a nice glass of fresh squeezed lemonade from the girls. They were very excited to have such prestigious customers. While they didn’t have to, these servicemen took time out of their busy day to bring out some big smiles in these kids. Showing support for their community and the kids is always awesome for us parents.

The girls loved touting their “fresh squeezed lemonade” and attempted to attract customers near and far with the old fashion yelling approach. It was good to see a few faces stop by and support these kids’ small business. I am very proud of my daughter and her cousin for sticking with their stand for a few hours instead of just giving up. Props also to my wife and sister for helping them along the way.

IMG_5537 Very big points to Highland for having such a great community for a couple of kids to set up a fresh squeezed lemonade stand. You can hear stories of a kid’s lemonade stand getting shut down because of some silly ordinance, like here in Hazelwood, MO. It’s harmless fun and the kids learn a lot about responsibility. I wouldn’t recommend letting the kids go at it alone, they will always need some parental backup. It is easy enough to watch from a distance and let the kids give it a go. If they end up needing help then you’ll only be a few feet away.

The girls made a little bit of money and have already planned on how to spend their profits before the school year begins. From Shopkins to school outfits, they won’t be able to afford them all, but they got an idea of what they can get.IMG_5536

I'm a 40-year-old father blessed with two wonderful children: a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son. My life revolves around my beautiful wife, who is the cornerstone of our family. Without her unwavering support, none of what I do would be possible. By day, I serve as a network administrator for a local school district, ensuring smooth operations in the realm of technology. During the evenings, you'll often find me engrossed in various creative pursuits, from illustrating books to crafting websites or composing music. But above all, my priority is spending quality time with my kids. Parenthood has been a profound journey of growth and discovery for me, and now, armed with a keyboard instead of a pen, I'm eager to share my experiences and insights with others.
