There are so many health benefits for children getting out in the great outdoors. Even 30 minutes a day has proven to do a lot of good for their physical and mental health. It’s best to make outdoor time for your child each day if you can. It’s more important that your child gets some fresh air, soaks up the sun, and sees the beauty that surrounds them.  As children grow into adults, they become more focused on what’s going on in their life and their screen.

Outdoor activities are one of the integral parts of being a child and it’s something that also teaches them a valuable lesson. Once a child gets older, it can be far more difficult for them to go outside, let alone want to go outside. If you want to ensure that your child has a love for the outdoors, then it’s best to go ahead and get started as young as possible. These are some ways to introduce your child to the great outdoors.

Start small

Starting off with something small such as a hike is a great way to begin fostering a love of nature and the outdoors. Hikes don’t need to belong, nor hard. Even just going on a trail at the local park for an hour and doing a lot of good for your kid. This can also allow you to teach them what to pack and what websites you like to go to for outdoor gear such as EcoGearFX. It’s just important to know that you don’t want to push your child’s boundaries too much.

Go camping

Get ready to do some wild camping with your little ones! Camping is one of the best ways to be a part of nature, plus who doesn’t love sleeping under the stars? Sure, there are different forms of camping such as RVs, indoor camping, and the traditional way with a tent. These are all a lot of fun and you can even make a fun campfire and roast some marshmallows. While camping is a great way to introduce your child to the wild, it’s best to first get them accustomed to nature before you jump on into camping.

Do a scavenger hunt

Whether you live in a big city such as St. Louis or you live in a rural area, scavenger hunts are simply one of the greatest fun ways to have a great time with your child. You and your partner can simply create a scavenger hunt for the kids to participate in. But there are even some scavenger hunt apps around as well that you can try.

Teach a new skill

Teaching the basics to your children such as cycling or swimming can easily be done outside. You’ll want to find a way to make it fun and interesting for your child. Just constantly encourage them and give them a nice push.  In general, you just want to be patient with your child. Not just with getting them to pick up a new skill. But to try and push the love of nature onto them. It’s just something that simply takes time.

I'm a 40-year-old father blessed with two wonderful children: a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son. My life revolves around my beautiful wife, who is the cornerstone of our family. Without her unwavering support, none of what I do would be possible. By day, I serve as a network administrator for a local school district, ensuring smooth operations in the realm of technology. During the evenings, you'll often find me engrossed in various creative pursuits, from illustrating books to crafting websites or composing music. But above all, my priority is spending quality time with my kids. Parenthood has been a profound journey of growth and discovery for me, and now, armed with a keyboard instead of a pen, I'm eager to share my experiences and insights with others.
