St. Louis — It’s time to raise the roof at the Sappington-Lubbock Log House. The building, an important part of St. Louis County’s early history, is being reconstructed on the grounds of Historic Sappington Park.
To help fund the project, the Sappington House Foundation is hosting a dinner event filled with food, drink and fascinating information about the house, its era and its importance to St. Louis.

The dinner will be held on Saturday, May 31 fro 6 to 9 p.m. at 1015 S. Sappington Rd., St. Louis, MO 63126.
During the evening, guests will enjoy an 1816-themed garden buffet along with beer, wine and a signature cocktail by Judgement Tree Spirits. The Mound City Slickers will set the stage with music and dancers will demonstrate the foot-tapping styles of the day. Fascinating on-site demonstrations will explore the log house’s construction and artisans and reenactors will represent skills of the era. Museum tours and a silent auction will add to the celebration.
All-inclusive tickets are $100 per person or $175 per couple. VIP tickets are available for $200 per person and include reserved flower garden seating, Sappington House membership and commemorative gifts.
Built by Joseph Sappington in 1816, the home’s restoration was started by its last owners, Jim and Charlotte Lubbock. Reconstruction is underway and when completed, the home will serve as an education center and event venue on the Sappington House grounds.
“Too many buildings from St. Louis’s past have been lost,” said the event’s honorary chair, St. Louis Post-Dispatch Weatherbird cartoonist Dan Martin. “Now is the time to come together to safeguard this historic structure as it becomes a useful and vibrant venue for our community.”

The Sappington House is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and the third Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit
