Phyllis Hyman was known for her rich, unmistakable voice and unforgettable performances, and LA Young brings a special connection to the music. As a contralto, Young shares the same naturally deep vocal range that helped make Hyman such a distinctive voice in soul and jazz.
This isn’t an impersonation show. Instead, LA Young and her band, Soul Society™, perform Hyman’s music live, bringing her classic songbook back to the stage with arrangements that let the music speak for itself. No backing tracks, just live music!
The tribute has already enjoyed three consecutive years of performances and three sold-out nights at Washington, D.C.’s Anacostia Playhouse. Now, St. Louis audiences have a chance to experience it for themselves.
