Almost everyone who is in charge of driving a car knows that there are certain fixes that can be learned at home, and that there are others that can’t be done in the comfort of the garage attached to your house. A car is a complex machine and when things go wrong (and they do) it’s important to know what to do next to fix those issues. You might already have an idea on how to make the little fixes your car needs, but there are some basics that all car drivers should know so that they can get their cars fixed without having to put them into the shop for days at a time.

It can be frustrating for your car to break down when you’re least expecting it, and yet if you took the time to check out the Ford Mustang factory shop manuals and learn some of the repairs you can make, you wouldn’t have that frustration. Some of the common car problems are refreshingly simple, and we’ve got some of them listed for you below!

  • Changing your oil. You have to regularly check and change the oil in your car if you want it to run smoothly. It’ll help the car to keep going while prolonging its lifespan and it’s one of the most fundamental skills that you should have for car repair and maintenance. If your oil plug is too far for you to reach, you should get some help to do it. You don’t have to make any repairs alone, but this is an easy fix you can learn in no time.
  • Adding a new tire. Run over a nail and popped the tire? Most people do it at some point in their driving life and if you know how to change the tire by yourself, you’re going to be able to do just that wherever you are. All you need is a wrench to loosen the lug nuts, a jack to lift the car, and somewhere safe to do it. It’s a case of nuts off, tire off, tire on, nuts on, go!
  • Your spark plugs aren’t sparking. Did you know that the spark plugs spark up to ignite the gasoline, which goes to power your vehicle. If this stops working, you need to ensure that you know how to do it yourself. Finding the spark plugs, removing the wire, removing the faulty plug and adding the new one will help you to get your spark plugs fixed up in no time.
  • Your paintwork is scratched. One of the car repairs that you really need to think about is fixing the scratches in the paintwork. You can go and get your car resprayed, of course, but it can be costly. You can sand the scratch yourself, clean it, add a compound and polish. Then wash and wax to seal the repair. You can save a lot of money when you know how to do this yourself. It’s not too hard!

I'm a 40-year-old father blessed with two wonderful children: a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son. My life revolves around my beautiful wife, who is the cornerstone of our family. Without her unwavering support, none of what I do would be possible. By day, I serve as a network administrator for a local school district, ensuring smooth operations in the realm of technology. During the evenings, you'll often find me engrossed in various creative pursuits, from illustrating books to crafting websites or composing music. But above all, my priority is spending quality time with my kids. Parenthood has been a profound journey of growth and discovery for me, and now, armed with a keyboard instead of a pen, I'm eager to share my experiences and insights with others.
