National Pet Oral Health Care Month

chewy.comDid you know that caring for your pet’s dental hygiene is just as important as caring for your own? For your pets though it’s a bit easier than having them brush twice a day. Chewy is doing their part by spreading awareness for National Pet Oral Health Care Month. This month they have sent over a great product to try out with Clark and Miss Lady’s dental health.

IMG_3213Greenies Veterinary Dental Chews Large Dental Dog Treats have been a big hit with both of the dogs and us humans. Their breath usually is pretty stinky after they eat, so we gave them one of these after they ate and immediately I didn’t mind them breathing on me. I wouldn’t recommend it for long periods of time because their breath is still hot and slobbery. I love my dogs but I don’t love them breathing in my face. These Greenies make it just a little easier.

IMG_3009One thing you want to make sure with these kinds of treats is that your pups do not gulp them down. You will want to make sure they chew them up instead of eating them whole. Dog’s should never eat treats whole. They need to chew them up. If they are prone to gulping down treats you should probably talk to your vet about what your options are.

We like the Greenies brand, but really any brand that can help with your pet’s oral health is okay in my book. There are plenty of different treats that can easily help your pet. Just search for oral health!

From Chewy’s website.

Greenies Veterinary Large Dental Dog Treats help protect dogs from oral health issues and promote their overall health and wellness. These veterinary treats have a chewy texture that works with your large dog’s natural chewing action for optimal plaque and tartar reduction, and a unique shape that can be chewed at different angles for maximum tooth contact. Greenies Veterinary Dental Chews also feature a blend of highly soluble proteins, vitamins, Omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and chelated minerals, making them nutritionally complete for adult dogs. provided St. Louis Dad with these products as compensation in exchange for an honest review. Cookies and Stains

chewy.comThis month sent over two products that were well received in my house. The first item was Merrick’s Jerky Chip Treats. They are oven-baked cookies for dogs. We tried out the Real Beef Recipe with Miss Lady and Clark. Needless to say they really enjoyed the treats. I don’t think there is anything they won’t eat. We typically reward our dogs when they are being good. Such as when we are eating dinner. If they do not hound us for food and instead lay in another room, then we will reward them with a treat like these cookies.

I like the idea of the dog treats in the form of a cookie. They look a lot like the real deal, so much in fact we had to put these high up on the shelf so our kids did not see them. They do not know how to read yet, and because these look so much like cookies I know they would immediately want some. I am pretty sure if my daughter took a big bite out of one of these, she probably wouldn’t trust any cookie I give her. I wouldn’t blame her. These are definitely for dogs only.

IMG_4574The next item Chewy sent over was Rocco & Roxie Supply Co. Professional Strength Stain & Odor Eliminator. Unfortunately our dogs have had accidents in the house in the past. We have gotten the carpets cleaned and we have even purchased our own steam cleaner. Surprisingly, it took me a few weeks before I even had a chance to use the spray. Which is a good thing. Nobody wants to clean their carpets from pet stains. Luckily, the bottle says that it has a”Natural bio-enzymatic formula, permanently eliminates pet urine odor”. So when I finally had the chance to try it out I was very surprised at how well it worked. The spray itself smelled pretty good. So I followed the directions and after 20 minutes I could not tell that Clark had left his business on my floor. That was the only chance I’ve had to use it, so a win for Miss Lady and Clark in that category.

It’s also a big win for Rocco & Roxie Supply Co. They have a nice spray here and I definitely recommend picking up a bottle if your pet has any indoor accidents. really has pretty much everything you need for your pet, and I want to hear about them. So be sure to comment below and tell us about your furry children! provided St. Louis Dad with these products as compensation in exchange for an honest review. Tug of War is No More

chewy.comChewy had sent me a really cool dog toy to try out with my fur babies.   What I got was a KONG Squeezz Rope with a squeaky ball at the end to check out and review. My boxer Clark is always trying to chew on something in our house. The KONG Squeezz Rope was a good idea while it lasted. Clark loved playing tug of war with me using the KONG. The handle held up well while I was using it and the ball and rope never seemed to give away during our tug of war matches. It was comfortable in my grip and I felt like I had good leverage up against this determined boxer.

Sadly, it only took 3 days for Clark to destroy it. More than likely it is my own fault for the KONG not surviving the week.  In my own stupidity I let Clark continue to chew on the toy well after we were done playing. So it did not take long for Clark to rip the handle off and then also chew through the rope.

I ended up cutting the rest of the rope off and now Clark has a nice tough squeaky ball. The ball has held up nicely and we use it to fetch and keep his chewing contained. When you order one of these KONG Squeezz Ropes be sure to choose between medium and large depending on your dog’s size. The color of the KONG will be selected at random according to the product page on Chewy’s website. If your dog is an active chewer this product may not be right for you.

If your dog likes to play tug of war and fetch but doesn’t really have an interest in chewing, then this is definitely for you. If you do have a chewer I would recommend the bone or ball specific KONG toy products. The handle on this one is great for humans, but not so much for doggies. Particularly larger dogs. I do not have a small to medium sized dog but I can imagine that they would not be able to destroy the handle as fast as a larger dog.

IMG_4109Chewy had also sent over a Blue Buffalo Wilderness Wild Chew Beef Tendon dog chew. I gave this treat to my other fur baby Miss Lady. She is an American Pit Bull mix. She loves dog chews like these and there were absolutely no complaints from her with this chew. This dog chew is 100% natural and are made from dried beef tendons. I would highly recommend this product over a traditional rawhide chew. I would say that the biggest issue I had with this dog chew as trying to keep Clark from taking it away from Miss Lady. You just can’t go wrong with dog chews like these. Be sure to purchase the larger pack though, this one dog chew just wasn’t enough for my doggies! provided St. Louis Dad with these products as compensation in exchange for an honest review. Treats from Chewy (Not the Wookie)

chewy.comOur family is really big on taking care of our pets. We have two dogs, Miss Lady and Clark and we want to make sure that they get food and treats that they like. This St. Louis Dad has teamed up with and will be providing reviews on a variety of their products. To start off I want to thank Chewy for this opportunity to try out these great items with my pets. Chewy provided the treats for an honest review. The dogs are super excited about getting a chance to try out a variety of treats. They really appreciate it too.

IMG_3990The first item that we tried out with Miss Lady and Clark was a Dogswell Sweet Potato Veggie Chews. The package says these have Super Boost for Immunity Support and they are a great alternative to rawhide. I think that’s great. Rawhide is one of those things that is kinda okay kinda not okay. These on the other hand are perfectly okay to give to dogs. Both of mine love them too. These were Made in The U.S.A as well. That may be important to some dog owners. It may also be worth noting that these are gluten free. Personally, I had never thought of sweet potatoes being something used as a dog treat. Props to Dogswell for coming up with this product. My dogs love them and I highly recommend trying them out with your canine.

The second and third treats we tried with the dogs were  both from Dogswell and were from the Happy Hips line. Duck Breast and Chicken Breast. Needless to say the dogs really enjoyed both. These are said to help with your dogs joints. No added hormones, no antibiotics, no fillers, no byproducts, and cage free animals. That is pretty cool.

Typically, we buy regular old milk bone type of treats and I figured we could try these out. Now I would be an idiot to ignore the fact that the duck and chicken treats were recalled back in 2013. These were not part of that recall, but I will be sure to update if I have any issues. For now, there is no reason to think there is any issue with these treats. Miss Lady and Clark enjoyed them, so we have two happy doggies, and that’s all I can ask for. doesn’t only sell from the Dogswell line. There is a large variety of products from some of the top brands. Be sure to check out their website and see for yourself.
