My Little Gym Superstar

IMG_3898 Abby had her final Little Gym class the other day. This class was a special one in where parents can come in and see all of the amazing things that the little gymnasts have learned. Things didn’t start out smoothly though. We pulled into the parking lot and not even 5 seconds after getting out of the car Abby tripped over her own two little feet and went face first into the curb. She received a nice scrape near her eye and one on her leg. She was in tears and I wasn’t sure if Abby would be up for class after the incident. We got her cleaned up and her teacher was right there encouraging Abby to join the rest of the class and show everyone what she can do.

It was awesome. Abby got a big introduction along with all of the other little gymnasts. Then they started with their performance. Abby is only four years old so it wasn’t anything like the Olympics or very advanced. She showed off her skills on the high bar, dancing, balance beam, flips, and more. Parents rotated around the room so we could follow our own kids around snapping pictures and taking video.

IMG_3896After all was said and done the kids were awarded a medal for their great work. The medal was a great way for Abby to forget all about her injury. She was so excited to get a medal that right after she got it and left the podium she ran over to show me. The smile on her face was priceless and I’m positive she will treasure that medal for years to come.

Watching my little girl receive her medal was a very proud moment for this dad. She had only missed one class because she was sick. So she really committed to going to her gym and has listened to her teacher attentively. It makes me feel like she is another step closer to starting school, which is a thing in of itself. My wife and I haven’t discussed what’s next for Abby in regards to activities such as the Little Gym. We had discussed possibly signing her up for something a little more advanced in regards to gymnastics, but we just are not sure yet. We want to see if there is anything else that Abby might want to try out first. Maybe it’s time for soccer or tee ball… Who knows… I’m sure we will be figuring that out soon.

JimmyBuffettSt. Louis Dad was recently contacted with the opportunity to try out a new line of tea from Jimmy Buffett and Tradewinds called Tradewinds Jimmy Buffett’s Island Tea. I have always enjoyed a good beverage and I’ve always thought highly of Jimmy’s music, so why not. Up for the task I agreed to give these drinks a chance. I was sent a nice suitcase designed box with four flavors of Tradewinds Jimmy Buffett’s Island Tea. Included was Peach Mango Black Tea, Tropical Citrus Green Tea, Paradise Punch Hibiscus Tea and Strawberry Lime Black Tea. I did not get a sample of Pineapple Coconut White Tea, which is okay since I am not a big fan of coconut, but no worries we have plenty of other flavors to taste.

Since this blog is about me and my family I thought why not include them in the review process. So I gathered the troops and setup shop. My wife Destiny and daughter Abby were ready to begin. Alex had to sit this one out. I didn’t think these drinks would be to healthy for a 14 month old. I might be wrong about that, he would probably like it but he needs other nutritional content. He’s an animal and goes for anything he can sink his new teeth in these days. So it will just be my wife, my daughter, and myself. Let the tasting begin!

IMG_3532We started with the Paradise Punch Hibiscus Tea. All three of us liked the taste and thought it smelled good too. Abby was quick to comment that she liked the pinkish color. Next was the Strawberry Lime Black Tea. Again, we all liked this flavor. This one was also my favorite of the bunch. It was very tasty. My wife liked it but didn’t think it was as sweet as the other flavors. The third flavor we tried was Tropical Citrus Green Tea. This flavor was my least favorite but my wife and daughter enjoyed it, especially Abby. This one has a very nice citrus smell and was definitely my daughter’s favorite. Last we tried Peach Mango Black Tea. I was skeptical at first because I am not a fan of peach anything. This one gives off a strong peach smell, which Destiny and Abby liked. After tasting I thought it was pretty good. I was surprised with my reaction but I did in fact like it. Destiny loved Peach Mango. She finished off the bottle of it and wanted to get some more. I would say that Jimmy Buffett inspired some great flavors with this line of tea. Give them all a try, there is one for everyone to enjoy. Especially that Strawberry Lime Black Tea. I’ll be picking up more of that.

To complement the launch of the tea line, Tradewinds will also be launching a “Sip & Sing Your Way to Paradise” campaign! Earth Day 2015

EARTHEarth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network,[1] and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year.[2]

This Earth Day our family will be doing our part by picking up some trash along our walk. We also have a few plants that we would like to get into the ground but I am thinking with frost on the forecast tonight that may need to wait a few more days. We picked up an awesome Dunecraft Eco Plant Pals called Fly Trap Fred that we hope will become a ferocious carnivore that screams out “Feed me Abby!”. But we all know nothing as cool as that will ever happen in our household. So we will just care for Fred like we do all of our other pets and plants. With love, sunlight, and whatever kind of food they need.

Keeping our planet nice and clean shouldn’t be a recommendation, it should be something that has to be done. Everyday should be an Earth day. Each year us humans produce more and more waste. Showing our kids that we as adults care about Mother Earth is very important, especially at a young age when children can be impressionable. They see what mom and dad do and where they throw their trash. So if you have a habit of just tossing your wrapper on the ground, so will your kids. If you take your trash where it is suppose to go, so will your kids.

Abby and I will be keeping a journal of how Fly Trap Fred is doing and we will keep you all updated on his progress. I think at her age it is the perfect time to introduce Abby to the scientific process. Although she cannot write exactly what she is thinking I will be there to help her along the way. I want her to see how the plant is growing and make guesses on what will happen next. We shall see!

Here are four great ideas to get you and your family engaged in some Earth Day fun!

  1. Go on a walk and cleanup along the way.
  2. Start a garden! Flowers, veggies, and more!
  3. Plant a tree! If you join the Arbor Day Foundation, you can even get ten free trees!
  4. Make a craft out of nature. Use leaves, pine cones, sticks and more to make a creative project!
