Losing a loved one is a sad day for anyone, but it is a sad fact of life. No one expects to hear the news that someone precious has passed away, and we all deal with it in different ways. Grief affects most people, and coming to terms with the unfortunate reality of death in the family can be challenging for some people to handle. But as daunting as tragic and sudden loss can be, you can help heal yourself and others by remembering a cherished loved one.

Keep them Close in a Custom Urn

Cremation is a common way to say goodbye to someone that has passed away, but you can choose to keep the ashes. Many people wish to be scattered in a lovely place when they pass, and most families oblige this wish. However, you can keep your loved one close by storing ashes in a traditional urn.

Urns come in many shapes and sizes and are usually shaped like a vase. However, there are numerous urn types, including urns for children that are a little less somber. Teddy bear urns, heart shapes, and rocking horses are all available as beautiful treasures for recalling fond memories of one who is gone but far from forgotten.

Dedicate a Memorial Bench

A noble way to remember someone is by dedicating a memorial item to them. Common dedications include park benches. You can reserve an existing park bench with the correct permissions. You will need to contact relevant authorities to do this. Usually, a memorial plaque is placed on the bench with your loved one’s name.

Another popular choice is to commission a bench to be made in their honor. You can then request permission for this bench to be placed in their favorite park or walking spot, or you can put it in your own garden so you can remember them in this way every day. Alternatively, you could purchase a bench and commission a plaque to save a little money.

Plant a Tree or Vine

A fantastic way to celebrate the life of a loved one is to plant a new life. Planting and then subsequently dedicating a tree is becoming a trendy method of remembrance. This is a fitting tribute when you consider that the tree is a universal symbol of life and reminds us that death is a necessary part of life.

Alternatively, you could dedicate a vine. Vineyards are open to allowing a particular vine to be designated as a memorial vine for a loved one. A unique way to remember someone who enjoyed a glass of wine. There are companies that will also send you a bottle of wine each year made from the grapes of your dedicated vine.

Establish a Remembrance Day

Of course, an effective way to remember someone you love that has passed away is to simply dedicate a day to them. Traditionally this is done on their date of passing. However, birthdays are also traditional remembrance days. Most people spend the special day visiting a gravesite or holding remembrance gatherings at home or around their urn.

Days like this are understandably sad. However, you can also spend the day reminiscing about the finer qualities of your loved one. Additionally, you could spend the time fondly recalling your favorite stories about them and the things that they enjoyed doing. You can do this by playing their treasured games, eating and drinking their favorite foods, and playing the music they loved.

I'm a 40-year-old father blessed with two wonderful children: a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son. My life revolves around my beautiful wife, who is the cornerstone of our family. Without her unwavering support, none of what I do would be possible. By day, I serve as a network administrator for a local school district, ensuring smooth operations in the realm of technology. During the evenings, you'll often find me engrossed in various creative pursuits, from illustrating books to crafting websites or composing music. But above all, my priority is spending quality time with my kids. Parenthood has been a profound journey of growth and discovery for me, and now, armed with a keyboard instead of a pen, I'm eager to share my experiences and insights with others.
