KinderWHAT?!?!

doodles I cannot believe it. My little girl starts kindergarten today. Where have these last five years gone, well six since her birthday is at the end of the month. My cute little baby that had started off shy and then blossomed into the intelligent and outgoing young lady she is. Last night I asked her how she feels about starting school and she told me she was really nervous. I’m a little nervous for her. I hope she does well and doesn’t shy up with all of the teachers. They are all so awesome I can see her doing really well in kindergarten. I think she is also a little nervous about riding to school with her Uncle Eric. He likes his Crossfit so his muscles might be a little intense for a five year old, but she knows that he can be silly. I think she will really enjoy riding with her Uncle.

I will be picking her up from school today and afterwards we will grab some ice cream so she can tell me about her day. Abby will be just fine is what I keep telling myself and in all reality I am only a phone call away, and sometimes I am even working in the building where she will be. Plus, her teacher is amazing. Granted I’m biased and I think all of the teachers at Abby’s school are incredible.

Before I know she will be graduating high school and off to college. We will be sure to soak up as much of our little girl as we can before mom and dad start cramping her style.

Come See The #BestCircusEver

universoulcircuslogoUniverSoul Circus is on it’s way to St. Louis this month and us in the St. Louis Dad household are beyond excited! Considered by many to be the best circus ever, UniverSoul Circus is kicking off their show in St. Louis on August 24th at Jamestown Mall. They will continue on through the 28th and then move to downtown St. Louis August 31st through September 5th!

Kids 11 months and younger get in free but everyone 1 year and older need to purchase a ticket to see the show. The UniverSoul Circus looks to me to be one awesome show that will be in town long enough for anyone to be able to fit it into their schedule.

August 24 – August 28 (Jamestown Mall)
August 31 – September 5 (Downtown)

Fresh Squeezed Lemonade!

Making LemonadeMy daughter and niece have been talking about it all summer. They have had their sights set on setting up a lemonade stand so they can make a little extra money before the summer is out. It is finally their big day and it could not have gone better. My wife and my sister setup a nice table and umbrella for the girls as their “stand” and had the girls help with making the fresh squeezed lemonade. It was pretty tasty as they say.

So they setup shop with some nice cold lemonade, some red solo cups, and patience. It didn’t take long to get their first customer and not long after that they got their next. The Highland Police Department and the Highland Fire Department even made a visit to get a nice glass of fresh squeezed lemonade from the girls. They were very excited to have such prestigious customers. While they didn’t have to, these servicemen took time out of their busy day to bring out some big smiles in these kids. Showing support for their community and the kids is always awesome for us parents.

The girls loved touting their “fresh squeezed lemonade” and attempted to attract customers near and far with the old fashion yelling approach. It was good to see a few faces stop by and support these kids’ small business. I am very proud of my daughter and her cousin for sticking with their stand for a few hours instead of just giving up. Props also to my wife and sister for helping them along the way.

IMG_5537 Very big points to Highland for having such a great community for a couple of kids to set up a fresh squeezed lemonade stand. You can hear stories of a kid’s lemonade stand getting shut down because of some silly ordinance, like here in Hazelwood, MO. It’s harmless fun and the kids learn a lot about responsibility. I wouldn’t recommend letting the kids go at it alone, they will always need some parental backup. It is easy enough to watch from a distance and let the kids give it a go. If they end up needing help then you’ll only be a few feet away.

The girls made a little bit of money and have already planned on how to spend their profits before the school year begins. From Shopkins to school outfits, they won’t be able to afford them all, but they got an idea of what they can get.IMG_5536
