IMG_1588Ever since the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge swept social media by storm, everything in our house has become a challenge. Not in a negative way where things are challenging and hard to do, but in a literal sense, where everything is a game or a challenge now with my daughter. The cookie challenge, the pizza challenge, the Frozen challenge, the chicken nugget challenge, the jumping challenge… It goes on and on. I have taken on so many different challenges I should have a medal or something by now. The best part of all of this challenge craziness is that it has actually worked to mine and my wife’s advantage.

Abby like myself is very picky when it comes to food. But since all of this challenge business became a thing we have gotten her to try food that she normally would not eat. Last night we told Abby she had to try her mashed potatoes. We’ve been trying for a few years to get her to eat them. She likes french fries and tater tots and we explain to her that mashed potatoes are basically the same thing, but no luck. So tonight we tried something different. We started the mashed potato challenge and low and behold it worked! Abby ate just about all of her potatoes and even took the opportunity to challenge her Aunt Shell Shell to be next in the mashed potato challenge.

I know I am a picky eater but that doesn’t mean my kids need to be one too. At least Abby loves salad and many other vegetables, but not a lot of meat. We just recently got her to eat pork chops and she loves them. I am surprised that this challenge technique is working so well. I am going to have to use it to my advantage as long as I can, and I suggest you give it a try if you’re having trouble getting your kids to do certain things. Do you have any tips or tricks on getting your kids to try more foods? I am up for any and every idea possible! Share them below or connect with me on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook!

I'm a 40-year-old father blessed with two wonderful children: a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son. My life revolves around my beautiful wife, who is the cornerstone of our family. Without her unwavering support, none of what I do would be possible. By day, I serve as a network administrator for a local school district, ensuring smooth operations in the realm of technology. During the evenings, you'll often find me engrossed in various creative pursuits, from illustrating books to crafting websites or composing music. But above all, my priority is spending quality time with my kids. Parenthood has been a profound journey of growth and discovery for me, and now, armed with a keyboard instead of a pen, I'm eager to share my experiences and insights with others.
